چکیده

O pen-angle glaucomas are typically classified as either primary or secondary. Primary open-angle glaucoma is a diagnosis of exclusion, characterized by an open anterior chamber angle and lack of a secondary, contributing disease process. Secondary glaucomas are related to an underlying disease that causes increased resistance to trabecular meshwork out flow and subsequent intraocular pressure rise. Examples of secondary glaucomas include the pigmentary, phacolytic, steroid-induced, exfoliation, neovascular, and angle-recession types. An important cause of pigmentary glaucoma relates to pigment release from the posterior iris surface due to direct contact with an improperly positioned IOL in the ciliary sulcus. This article highlights the nature of this process and includes recommendations for prevention and management.

Sulcus placement of single-piece acrylic intraocular lenses.

Single-piece acrylic (SPA) intraocular lenses (IOLs) have proven to be excellent posterior chamber IOLs (PC IOLs) for placement in the lens capsular bag. However, surgical complications such as posterior capsule tear or rupture may preclude placement of an IOL in the capsular bag. When capsular bag fixation is not possible, placement of a SPA IOL in the ciliary sulcus is problematic. This raise...

Outcome of Single-piece Intraocular Lens Sulcus Implantation following Posterior Capsular Rupture during Phacoemulsification

PURPOSE To assess the safety and outcome of single-piece posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC-IOL) implantation in the ciliary sulcus following posterior capsular rupture during cataract surgery. METHODS Patients with posterior capsular rupture during cataract surgery with a single-piece acrylic IOL implanted into the ciliary sulcus were studied. Complete ocular examinations were performed ...

Late-onset secondary pigmentary glaucoma following foldable intraocular lenses implantation in the ciliary sulcus: a long-term follow-up study

BACKGROUND To review the long-term outcomes of eyes with secondary pigmentary glaucoma associated with the implantation of foldable intraocular lenses (IOL) in the ciliary sulcus. METHODS The study retrospectively reviewed a series of cases who developed secondary pigmentary glaucoma after cataract operations. Data were collected from cases that were referred between 2002 and 2011. RESULTS ...

Refractive Results: Safety and Efficacy of Secondary Piggyback Sensar™ AR40 Intraocular Lens Implantation to Correct Pseudophakic Refractive Error

In this study we evaluate the visual outcomes, safety, efficacy, and stability of implanting of second sulcus intraocular lens (IOL) to correct unsatisfied ametropic patients after phacoemulsification. Methods. Retrospective study of 15 eyes (15 patients) underwent secondary intraocular lens implanted into the ciliary sulcus. The IOL used was a Sensar IOL three-piece foldable hydrophobic acryli...

Intermediate term follow-up after a single-piece-acrylic intraocular lens implantation in the ciliary sulcus- a cross-sectional study

BACKGROUND Implantation of a single-piece-acrylic intraocular lens (SPA-IOL) in the ciliary sulcus during phacoemulsification complicated with posterior capsule tear (PCT) may be associated with severe complications. The purpose of this study was to report the efficacy and safety of sulcus implantation of a SPA-IOL, designed for both in-the-bag and sulcus positioning. METHODS A prospective cr...
